A little bit about me and Eye of Nature.

My name is Matthias Edling, and I am a Swedish multi-award-winning photographer and filmmaker focused on marine and wildlife conservation in Southeast Asia.
In 2015, I took a leap of faith and moved to Southeast Asia to start my diving career. I began as an instructor, teaching people how to dive while also spreading awareness about the environmental crisis and how to fight it. Whenever I had free time, I took my camera underwater and discovered a new passion—underwater photography and videography.
As a self-taught photographer and filmmaker, I started Eye of Nature to showcase the incredible animals, creatures, and critters of our planet—especially the ones most people don’t even know exist. My goal is to bring them up close and raise awareness about their existence, the threats they face, and what we can do to protect them. By sharing my experiences and what I witness underwater, I hope to highlight the serious impact humans have on our planet, especially our oceans.
While working on some of Indonesia’s top liveaboards, I was fortunate to explore the most biodiverse places on Earth, right in the heart of the Coral Triangle. Spending time in areas like Raja Ampat and Komodo National Park, I saw firsthand how healthy reefs should look—and how quickly they can decline due to human activity.
I realized the power of sharing these stories. By documenting and spreading awareness, I could make a real difference. Even small actions, taken from the comfort of our homes, can help protect our oceans and the life within them.
Now, back in Indonesia, I’m focusing more than ever on filming and documenting everything this incredible part of the world has to offer.
